Bostancı
Bostancı History
Bostancı is a modern suburban district on the Asian side of Istanbul, Turkey. It was predominantly a rural area until the second half of the 20th century, and was gradually transformed into a residential and commercial zone in the following years. The name Bostancı comes from the Turkish word "bostan," which means vegetable garden. The district was known for its fertile land and abundant crops, and it played an important role in supplying the city with fresh produce. During the Ottoman Empire, Bostancı was an important location for the sultans who used it as a hunting ground and a retreat. It was also the site of imperial gardens where fruit and vegetables were grown for the palace kitchen. In the beginning of the 20th century, Bostancı began to urbanize, with the construction of schools, hospitals, and residential buildings. The introduction of tram lines and ferries made it easier for people to commute to and from Istanbul. In the 1950s and 60s, Bostancı experienced a rapid population growth due to migration from other parts of Turkey. To meet the needs of the growing population, new housing projects and commercial areas were developed. Today, Bostancı is a bustling neighborhood with a mix of residential and commercial areas. It is well connected to the rest of Istanbul with public transportation, and it continues to attract new residents and investors looking for a modern living experience.
