Haydarpasa Train Station

Haydarpasa Train Gar History

Haydarpasa Train Station (Haydarpasa Gar) is a historic train station located on the Asian side of Istanbul, Turkey. It was built in the early 20th century by the Ottoman government as part of the Istanbul-Baghdad Railway Project. The construction of the railway line began in 1903 and was completed in 1914. Haydarpasa Train Station was the terminus station of the line and became an important transport hub for the region. The station was designed in a neo-classical style by the German architect Otto Ritter von Kühlmann. During the First World War and the Turkish War of Independence, the train station served as an important hub for the transport of troops and goods. After the war, the Istanbul-Baghdad Railway was nationalized by the Turkish government and the station became the property of the Turkish State Railways. Haydarpasa Train Station continued to operate as a busy passenger and freight station until the 21st century. In 2012, the station underwent a major renovation, which included the restoration of the roof and the facade. However, in 2013, the train station was closed for a major renovation project, which is still ongoing. Today, Haydarpasa Train Station stands as a monument to the history of rail transport in Turkey and is considered one of the most important architectural landmarks in Istanbul. Despite its closure, it continues to attract visitors who come to admire its historic beauty and its importance to Turkish railway history.
