Der Turm wurde im 14. Jahrhundert von den Genuesen, einer mächtigen mittelalterlichen Handels- und Bankengemeinde, als Teil ihrer Stadtbefestigung erbaut.

Die Basilika-Zisterne ist ein altes unterirdisches Wasserspeichersystem in Istanbul, Türkei. Es wurde im 6. Jahrhundert während der Herrschaft des byzantinischen Kaisers Justinian I. erbaut und hat ein Fassungsvermögen von etwa 80.000 Kubikmetern Wasser. Die Zisterne wird von 336 Säulen getragen, von denen jede etwa 9 Meter hoch ist.
